A magnetic dummy can add a finishing detail to an outfit or photograph. Before choosing a colour, check whether your reborn has a magnet fitted, whether the dummy’s magnet can be reversed and how its shape will sit against the face.

You may also see these accessories called magnetic reborn pacifiers. They are made for dolls, not for babies.

Check whether your doll has a magnet

A magnetic dummy needs a compatible magnet already fitted inside the doll’s head. Check the doll’s listing or the information supplied by its artist. If neither mentions a magnet, ask the artist or seller before buying.

If your reborn has no head magnet, ask its artist which accessories suit it rather than opening the head or trying to fit one yourself.

What reversible means

Magnets attract in one direction and repel in the other. A reversible dummy lets you change the direction of the magnet inside the dummy to match your doll. Follow the instructions supplied with it.

Reversible does not mean universal. The position of the doll’s magnet and the shape of its mouth still affect how the dummy sits.

Choosing a Honeybug size

HoneyBug Sweet Dreams Preemie is the smaller size: 42 mm wide × 28.75 mm high. HoneyBug Sweetheart is the larger, newborn-plus size: 51 mm wide × 37.75 mm high. These are the manufacturer’s measurements; compare them with your doll’s mouth and face rather than choosing by its age label alone.

Your doll needs an existing head magnet. The reversible magnet lets you adjust its direction, but the fit still depends on your doll’s mouth shape and magnet position.

If the dummy will not sit properly

A dummy that pushes away may have its magnet facing the wrong direction. If it is designed to be reversible, follow its instructions to change the magnet’s direction.

If it attracts but sits off-centre or will not rest comfortably, the fit may be unsuitable. Avoid pressing it into the face, dragging it across the paint or adding extra magnets to increase the pull.

Handling and storage

These are collector accessories containing strong magnets, not working baby dummies. Keep them and any loose parts away from children and pets, and follow the product’s magnet warnings.

Check the dummy before use. If its casing is damaged or a magnet has become loose, stop using it. Store it securely when it is not on display.
